Case Study
Poetry in Parks
A postcard for the 24th U.S. Poet Laureate from Mount Rainier National Park
Ada Limón, the 24th U.S. Poet Laureate, graced the mountain with her presence and her project: You Are Here. Her project focused on a dedicated poem and a picnic table to commemorate the event.
Impact
Literature in the Landscape
The project introduced poetry as a mode of interpretation, giving visitors a slower, more reflective way to experience the park.
Educator Adoption
Local schools used the postcards as prompts in creative writing programmes, extending the work into classrooms.
Unexpected Audience
The series reached readers who had no prior connection to the park, brought in through a shared love of poetry.
